Ermita de la Madre de Dios | Tierradegigantes

La Ermita de la Madre de Dios es la sede actual de nuestras imágenes durante todo el año, compartiéndola con la cofradía de Ntro. Padre Jesús Nazareno y la Hermandad de San Antón.

Esta Ermita de estilo barroco en sus inicios, data del siglo XVII, cuando era conocida como Ermita de Ntra. Sra. de las Angustias. En 1697 se construyó su cubierta abovedada, obra de la que se encargó D. Pablo de la Sierra, natural de Villamayor, en el precio de ocho mil ochocientos reales, y tenían que ajustarse a los planos señalados que responden a la traza actual. No debieron terminarse del todo ya que, en 1750, D. Cristobal Tineo y Orea, por entonces mayordomo de la cofradía, confiesa en sus disposiciones testamentarias haber gastado de su pecunio grandes sumas para concluir las obras, y establecer en la ermita la nueva imagen de Ntra. Sra. de la Soledad que a partir de entonces le da nombre; anteriormente se conoce a esta ermita como de Ntra. Sra. de las Angustias, y vulgarmente de "Madre de Dios".

En los años 60 del siglo XVIII se erigió un retablo para albergar la imagen de la titular. Su aspecto actual es el fruto de numerosos avatares incluidos los derivados de la última guerra civil española en 1936, en la que después de quemar todas sus imágenes y perder un impresionante patrimonio artístico y cultural, ya que también desapareció su retablo original, hizo las funciones de fragua durante toda la contienda civil, sufriendo un daño irreparable puesto que desaparecieron todos los adornos barrocos, así como su antiguo retablo también de estilo barroco tardío.

Su exterior es muy sobrio y presenta cubierta a dos aguas a base de teja curva árabe. Perdida la portada del siglo XVIII lo más destacable es el cubo correspondiente a la cúpula del crucero y la linterna que lo corona. El interior es de una sola nave de fondo plano y con crucero casi imperceptible cubierto por cúpula sobre pechinas. La nave tiene bóveda de medio cañón.

Ermita Madre de Dios

This chapel hosts our religious images throughout the year, sharing it with the Brotherhood of “Ntro. Padre Jesús de Nazaret” and the Brotherhood of ”San Antón”.

It was a baroque chapel in its beginning, dating from the XVII century, when it was known as “Ermita de Ntra. Sra. De las Angustias”.

In 1697 its domed roof was built, which was commissioned to Pablo de la Sierra, a native of Villamayor, at the price of eight thousand eight hundred reals, who had to comply with the indicated plans that match the current trace.

They might not have been finished because, in 1750, Cristobal D. Tineo y Orea, then steward of the brotherhood, confesses in his bequests that he had spent large sums of their brass to complete the works, and to bringing to the chapel the image of Our Lady of La Soledad, who gave name to the place, previously known as the Chapel of Our Lady of Las Angustias”, commonly called "Madre de Dios".

In the 1760s an altarpiece was erected to lodge the image of the owner. Its current appearance is the result of many events including the Spanish civil war in 1936, when, after burning all their images and losing an impressive artistic and cultural heritage, like the loss of the original altarpiece, it was used as a forge, suffering irreparable harm since like the disappearance of all baroque ornaments, and also their former altarpiece lin ate Baroque style.

Its outside is very sober and it is covered with a slate gabled roof with curved Arabian tile.

Lost the cover of the XVIII century, the most remarkable element is the cube of the dome surmounting the transept. The interior has a single nave with flat surface and an almost imperceptible transept with a dome over pendentives. The nave is roofed with a barrel vault.
