Los molinos de Campo de Criptana se encuentran en la cima del pueblo, que está situado en la ladera de una colina. Hay diez molinos, de los cuales tres son originales del siglo XVI (Burleta, Infanto y Sardinero).
Hay indicios de que Cervantes se inspiró en Campo de Criptana para crear la aventura del capítulo VIII de la primera parte, de El Quijote. Hay documentos históricos que dicen que este municipio manchego era el que más molinos tenía en aquella época, según el Catastro del Marqués de la Ensenada treinta y cuatro. Tantos como la suma de los que había en las demás poblaciones manchegas.
Hay otros siete molinos actuales en «La Sierra». Son el Poyatos, que tiene la Oficina de Turismo; el Inca Garcilaso, que tiene el museo de Labranza; el Cariari, con el museo de Enrique Alarcón; el Pilón, donde se encuentra el museo del Vino; el Lagarto , que tiene el museo de la Poesía; el Culebro, con el museo de la lugareña Sara Montiel y el de Vicente Huidobro, antes llamado Quimera y que tiene el museo dedicado al poeta chileno Vicente Huidobro.

Sierra de los molinos
Criptana's windmills are in the top of the town, which is placed in the hillside of a hill. There are ten mills, of which three are original of the XVI century (Burleta, Infanto and Sardinero).
There are signs that Cervantes was inspired in Criptana’s windmills to create the Adventure of the Chapter VIII of the first part of Don Quixote . There are historical documents that say that this town was the one that most mills had at that time , according to “el Catastro del Marqués de la Ensenada” there were thirty-four. As many as the sum of the mills that there were in other populations in La Mancha.
