Es sede de la imagen de la Virgen de Criptana, patrona de la localidad, cuya fiesta fue instituida por decreto del ayuntamiento de diciembre de 1547. El edificio, construido sobre otro anterior data del siglo XVI y su proyecto es de 1513, debido a Juan García y Esteban Sánchez. A lo largo del tiempo ha tenido varias restauraciones, pero en parte se han respetado los elementos originales renacentistas.
En su exterior debe destacarse la portada de acceso, un arco de medio punto y columnas de orden toscano. Su interior es de tres naves que se cubren con tramos abovedados, alternando las bóvedas vaídas de la central con las de arista de las laterales.
Entre las fiestas más importantes referentes a la Stma. Virgen de Criptana, decir que es el lunes de Pascua cuando se celebra su famosa romería en el cerro donde está ubicada la ermita. En la ermita de la Virgen a las 18 horas de este día se rezará el Santo Rosario y al término, comenzará la Procesión de salida de la Virgen hacia el pueblo, acompañada de la Banda de Cornetas y Tambores Cristo de la Elevación acompañada por numerosos criptanenses.. La imagen permanecerá en la Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción hasta uno de los primeros sábados de junio, que se vuelve a trasladar al santuario.

Ermita Virgen de Criptana
It houses the image of the Virgin of Criptana, Campo de Criptana´s patron, whose feast was instituted by decree of the Council in December 1547. The building was built over a former one dating from the 16th century and the project is from 1513, by John García and Esteban Sánchez .Throughout the time it underwent several restoration processes, but partly respecting original Renaissance elements.
On the outside of the front access, the round arch and Tuscan columns should be mentioned. The interior has three aisles covered with barrel vaults, alternating the lobbed vaults of the central aisle with the groined ones on the sides.
Among the most important celebrations concerning the Most Holy Virgin of Criptana we should highlight Easter Monday when a popular pilgrimage takes place on the hill where the shrine is located. In the chapel of the Virgin 18 people pray the Holy Rosary and then, the procession starts from the Chapel to the town centre, accompanied by a Bugle and drum band) accompanied byA BIG NUMER OF people from Criptana. The image will remain in the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción till the first Saturday in June, when it is again transferred to the sanctuary.
